The Pastel de Nata on the Way to Ribeira

Porto is best experienced at Manteigaria in Largo de São Domingos

Largo de São Domingos is a must-stop for anyone heading down towards Ribeira. It lies at the end of Rua das Flores, one of the most beautiful and lively streets in Porto’s historic centre, known for its traditional shops, old façades, and the constant flow of locals and first-time visitors alike.

Here, you’ll find everything that defines Porto’s unique character: ancient stonework, vibrant street life, quick conversations spoken with a local accent, travellers from every corner of the world, and the residents who call this special place home. It is the link between downtown Porto and the Douro, between long-standing traditions and modern tastes, between the history found around every corner and the city that keeps moving forward.

Manteigaria at Largo de São Domingos is waiting for you to experience that side of Porto which, like a Pastel de Nata, is better felt than explained.

How to Get to Manteigaria at Largo de São Domingos

What to See and Do After Enjoying a Pastel de Nata at Largo de São Domingos

The Largo de São Domingos area is the perfect place to discover Porto. Traditional shops, landmarks, views over the Douro, and some of the city’s most iconic buildings are all just a few minutes away. After enjoying a Pastel de Nata at Manteigaria, take the opportunity to:

  • Walk along Rua das Flores, uphill or downhill, and take in the shops, cafés, historic façades, and the little details that only reveal themselves when you slow down.
  • Visit the Stock Exchange Palace and discover the Arab Room, one of the city’s most remarkable interiors, hidden inside one of Porto’s most beautiful buildings.
  • Stop by the Ferreira Borges Market, where its striking red iron structure stands out against the surrounding grey stone.
  • Head down to Ribeira and experience the Douro River up close, surrounded by terraces, boats, colourful façades, and views across to Vila Nova de Gaia.
  • Continue on to São Bento Station and admire its famous tile panels, one of the most beautiful ways of telling the story of northern Portugal.

Largo de São Domingos is both a crossroads and a place to pause. For a Pastel de Nata, of course.

I tried these pastries and the coffee today and absolutely loved them. This is the perfect place to enjoy a Portuguese pastry and a coffee. The espresso was delicious. It was so much fun to watch them making the Pastéis de Nata. They bake them fresh, so when you eat one, it has literally just come out of the oven. I highly recommend this place if you're visiting Porto!

The Pastel de Nata here is amazing! It's freshly made and served while still warm. If you buy more than one to take away, they even give you a lovely box. Great place!

Incredible!! The best Pastel de Nata in Porto. The outside was crisp and flaky, while the filling was smooth, rich, and silky. We loved it so much that we came back three times!

Travelling through Porto for the first time (and Portugal in general), I decided to try this famous local pastry. I have to say, I fell in love with this sweet and delicious treat. I would give a Nobel Prize to whoever invented it! But be warned: it's addictive — once you've tried one, you can't stop eating them all day long. I absolutely loved it, and Manteigaria is definitely one of the best places to find it. (During my short visit, I tried them in several different places!)
