The first Manteigaria factory

Our first factory was established in Chiado, in the historic space that housed the headquarters of “Manteigaria União,” the cooperative that sold butter throughout the capital.

We preserved the Art Nouveau style of this building, constructed in 1900, as well as the original name on the facade. Butter is such a fundamental ingredient in our Pastel de Nata recipe that we named our brand “Manteigaria”, in homage to the tradition of this place.

I wanted to try the famous pastéis de nata during my visit to Lisbon. So I went to Manteigaria, since it's their specialty. The place is beautiful, clean, and the staff are friendly and smiling. You're served at the entrance, and in the back you can watch the pastéis being made. From the first bite, it's a delight. Crispy and delicious. Sweet in just the right amount. It was one of the best memories of my trip to Lisbon.

Our first pastel de nata was here, and since then there's been no comparison. I'm sorry... for me and my husband, it's the BEST of all! Love at first bite and I can't describe it in words. You have to try it! Friendly staff and a fast, open factory where you can watch every step of the production process. Everything is top-notch!

I only had a quick pastel de nata at this Manteigaria shop in Lisbon, on my way home after a long day exploring the city, and seeing such a fresh, still warm pastel being served at night almost brought tears to my eyes. Undeniably incredible. I highly recommend it!

I'm no expert, but I can tell you one thing: try one. You can find pastéis de nata almost everywhere in Lisbon. I tried them at three different Manteigarias. They were delicious every time. Try one. But be careful, because you might want two. Or three. Or twenty. Haha.
